karma

Remember that car accident I was in last year?

Yeah, me too.

Earlier this week I ran into an old friend from high school. I've seen him out a few times over the past few years, but we haven't talked much. When I saw him out Tuesday he said,

"The last time I saw you you were in a bad car wreck. Is everything okay?"

Me: "You saw that?"

"Yeah, they almost hit me too."

Me: "They changed their story and my insurance had to cover that. I only had my car for two weeks and it was $3,000 in damage."

"WHAT?? They came out of the parking lot and crossed two lanes."

Me: "Yeah, the cop was a dick and I went to court and just took supervision instead of trying to fight it. No one who saw it would make a statement."

"I'm so sorry. I was late for class. I almost went by your parents house but I drove by and your car wasn't there. I didn't have your number."

Me: "It's okay. It's in the past. It's nice to hear someone else say it wasn't my fault."

"There's no way it was your fault. I'm so sorry. I feel bad."

Me: "It's okay. I'll never drive by a wreck without stopping to give someone my info for court now though."

"Well, I don't stop but I feel really bad about yours and wish I would have tracked you down."

Me: "You didn't know. Don't worry about it."

He asked if my insurance went up and I said I don't know, I'm on my parents and they only charge me $100 a month. He pays $170 a month and only has one ticket on his record. (which I believe is a DUI from a few years ago)

I definitely don't have any DUIs, but $100 sounds pretty good right about now.

Moral of the story, if you see a wreck, please PLEASE PLEASE stop and give the person hit your info in case they need a statement for court. It makes things so much easier and doesn't take that much time out of your day.
